Zeronine BMX Number Plate Sticker

Yes, you could stick this sticker on anything including a visor, tool box or you name it! Zeronine came on the BMX scene in 1978 when Owen Scheppman began making numbers 0-9 for plates. Located in the Chicago. Illinois area he created a cool new look for riders. As Zeronine grew Owen added race wear, pads, number plates and later bikes too!

ABA 1983 Grands Huffy Racing Event Patch

Ok, so it is not a BMX sticker, but this is the kind of stuff you will find popping up at this blog. The patch was given to every participant at the 1983 ABA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jersey patches usually were immediately put on your race jersey or a jacket by most racers. That way when you went to the local track you had bragging rights.

In 1983 Brian Patterson became the ABA #1 Pro for a second time and the ABA #1 Amateur was Diamond Back rider Doug Davis.

Bicycle Motocross Action Magazine sticker

Bicycle Motocross Action was probably the most influencial magazine in the early days of BMX. Bob Osborn was part of the sport since the very early days. Throughout the years BMXA made a number of different styles of stickers, this one was from the early 1980's. The sticker is black ink on brushed metal sticker material.

Original MotoMag Frame Sticker- BMX Products

One of the original BMX manufacturers BMX Products was founded by Skip Hess, an old drag racer. When Skip started the company he took some knowledge from the drag racing industry. Drag cars and muscle cars already had plenty of cast aluminum wheels, Skip made them for us BMXers!

The original BMX mag wheel was the MotoMag and these first stickers were a two-sided sandwich that wrapped around the downtube of your bmx frame.

Cook Bros. BMX Frames Downtube Sticker

Cook Brothers was around since about 1978, when I remember they introduced a double clamp stem. They did make some race frames, but were best known for the aluminum cranks and especially the Cook Bros. hubs.
The hubs were really nice sealed bearing hubs that rolled great and were very expensive for the day.

The sticker here did not scan well because it is printed in mirror material. This is an original downtube
sticker for Cook Bros. BMX frames.

BMX Plus Magazine California License Plate Sticker

California has always held a magical place in every ones mind and that famous California license plate with either the black and gold or blue and gold was special. BMX Plus! Magazine was part of and still is part of publisher Daisy-Hi-Torque, known for titles like Dirt Bike and Motocross Action.

When this super rare sticker came out it was a keeper.

Hutch BMX Action Trick Team - Mike Buff Sticker

It was the early 1980's and BMX Action was at the height of its popularity. Hutch was the premium standard in BMX technology. Ask yourself, what kid didn't want to be on the BMX Action Trick Team or at least see them show up at the local shop?

When R.L. Osborn and Mike Buff weren't out in California jumping over Porsches, eatin' tacos or testing the latest bmx gear the were doing stunt shows. At the end of the show they would throw out stickers to the crowd, yep like the one above.

Haro Designs Neon Tube BMX Sticker

Bob Haro came on the scene in the 1970's drawing the fantasies of us all, lifted Toyota 4x4's, trick bmx bikes and the big race. Haro's cartoonish drawings appeared in Bicycle Motocross Action and he became famous to every bmxer.

When he financed his racing by making custom number plates on summer tour it was just the beginning. By the time this neon tube sticker became available he had a super successful line of number plates and those nifty two finger plastic brake levers. His bike frames were yet to be realized.

SE Racing Division 1970's BMX Sticker

A very early edition of the SE Racing stickers that bombarded BMX tracks in the 1970's. Scot Breithaupt the self proclaimed "old Man" of BMX built a following and a name for his bike company well before any frame existed.

I am guessing that this sticker one of the many style appeared about 1974 or 1975. If anyone knows I would sure like you to comment.

Oury Grip Vintage BMX Sticker

In the very early days of BMX you had to have Oury grips on your bike, because back then it was about being just like a motocrosser. These grips were soft, they came in a bunch of colors and had that MX feel and look. One problem, they were made for motocross motorcycles and that meant that one grip was too big for your bars. Why? You had no throttle!

The fix was this; your parents had money...buy two sets and use the two left grips. No extra cash, like me, then you get some duct tape and tape the right handlebar till the grip fit. I still remember the Oury Grip t-shirt that I had, it made me Mr. Motocross!

FMF BMX Division Vintage Sticker

Why not start this new blog with one of my favorite stickers from the collection. Even though it is hard to say which one of the thousands is my favorite, this one is just cool. I have this sticker in two sizes and it was given to me at a race in the 1970's.

This FMF BMX Division sticker is super rare and the rider may be Jeff Utterback, any one know for sure? FMF made some great aluminum bike frames at about the time every motorcycle company jumped on the BMX bandwagon! There was FMF, Champion, Redline, DG, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, but I never remember Honda getting involved.
